Regular programmation should resume soonish. My money’s in that office, right? If she start giving me some bullshit about it ain’t there, and we got to go someplace else and get it, I’m gonna shoot you in the head then and there. Then I’m gonna shoot that bitch in the kneecaps, find out where my goddamn money is. She gonna tell me too. Hey, look at me when I’m talking to you, motherfucker. You listen: we go in there, and that nigga Winston or anybody else is in there, you the first motherfucker to get shot. You understand?

Your bones don’t break, mine do. That’s clear. Your cells react to bacteria and viruses differently than mine. You don’t get sick, I do. That’s also clear. But for some reason, you and I react the exact same way to water. We swallow it too fast, we choke. We get some in our lungs, we drown. However unreal it may seem, we are connected, you and I. We’re on the same curve, just on opposite ends.

Now that there is the Tec-9, a crappy spray gun from South Miami. This gun is advertised as the most popular gun in American crime. Do you believe that shit? It actually says that in the little book that comes with it: the most popular gun in American crime. Like they’re actually proud of that shit.

Look, just because I don’t be givin’ no man a foot massage don’t make it right for Marsellus to throw Antwone into a glass motherfuckin’ house, fuckin’ up the way the nigger talks. Motherfucker do that shit to me, he better paralyze my ass, ’cause I’ll kill the motherfucker, know what I’m sayin’?

You think water moves fast? You should see ice. It moves like it has a mind. Like it knows it killed the world once and got a taste for murder. After the avalanche, it took us a week to climb out. Now, I don’t know exactly when we turned on each other, but I know that seven of us survived the slide… and only five made it out. Now we took an oath, that I’m breaking now. We said we’d say it was the snow that killed the other two, but it wasn’t. Nature is lethal but it doesn’t hold a candle to man.

Mindset for Going Self-Employed: Use your Brain! When you search Google for information about going self-employed, you stumble upon a myriad of howtos, recommendations, experience reports, and lists of things you need to consider. Unfortunately, this information often is of mediocre quality or doesn’t really address the situation you are finding yourself to be in. It may be information dedicated to citizens of a certain country or people of a certain profession, or it may be reduced to mainly legal or financial aspects of business creation.

As far as I could experience during my own journey of going self-employed, most of this information certainly was created with good intentions, but it easily can get into your way. It’s true, you need to figure out the legal form of your company or micro-business, and you need to learn about what health insurance options you will have and how to create a strategy for building up a retirement fund. Yet as it turns out, there’s mainly one single reason why people hesitate to become their own boss: Mindset!

The Mindset for Going Self-Employed

Although you may think this is just something for naive persons to consider, I am convinced that mindset is the number one difference that distinguishes successful self-employed business owners from the people that stay in their job and never try.

The things is this: Going self-employed is not an easy thing. The more you read about it, the more difficult it seems to copy the success of other people – yet the easier it seems to make the same mistakes of the ones that failed. You easily get hung up in the myriad of information that’s out there, and as I already said: The quality and usefulness of the available resources varies strongly!

From my own experience, I can only say that it helps to be very decisive about what to do and what to spend your time on. Reading a million websites that may be remotely related to your own endeavors can be quite interesting, but fact is they won’t probably bring you closer to your goal of becoming self-employed.

Rather than that, be specific about what you need to know, and avoid information overload by all means!

I made great experiences by taking an online course by Chris Guillebeau and Pam Slim, that focused on making your first hundred dollars with a really small business. Actually, a lot of what I learned there is used on this very site. Unfortunately, there is currently no other course like that available. You might want to check out the accompanying guides, though, that were written by Guillebeau, the creator of the $100 business course.
